This was the 5th time Rich Siegert invited us to Bemidji and 6 Members followed the call on September 14-16, 2018.
Rich welcomed us at the DoubleTree Hotel on Lake Bemidji. We got together for an evening of food and laughter. Everyone got printed instructions for the upcoming driving section of the event.
Andreas and Sabine brought goodie bags from this year’s Porsche Parade for everyone. After a story filled evening all parties settled in their rooms to get a good night sleep.
9am was the start time for Saturday’s drive. This year we headed east to Duluth. After hitting some construction in downtown Duluth and enjoyed the view from the rotating JJ Astor Restaurant on top of the Radisson Hotel.
All re-energized we left Duluth and drove north on MN 61 along the shore of Lake Superior. Just after Silver Bay, an old taconite mining town, we turned onto MN-1. 100km of winding roads, Porsche drivers heaven. We encountered a couple road blocks, but overall it was a great spirited drive.
In Ely, the Banff of Minnesota, we settled at the Adventure Inn. For dinner we selected the Rock Wood. The tender flat iron steaks where killer and since it was Rich’s Birthday we surprised him with a special birthday cake. After dinner we shared some more stories and looked back on today’s drive.
Sunday morning the group had breakfast at the Insula. Than time came to say goodbye and drive home. Everyone had a great time and is hoping we can do it again next year.
Thanks again to Rich for hosting the event and spending his birthday with his Porsche Family.
